The MV World Odyssey arrived at the Croatia port of Dubrovnik yesterday and Maggie will disembark today to begin exploring Croatia. They spent the last 7 days at sea, so we thought it might be fun to share what a day is like on the ship. Heres Maggies description:
I wake up around 9:30 and then I go to Global Studies every day at 10:00am and that goes until 11:00am. Then back to my room for about an hour for either a nap or some quiet time, before heading to lunch with friends around noon. I dont ever eat the ship breakfast because its served from 6:30 - 8:30am, so instead I just grab some of my snack food in the room.
I have class at 12:40 on both A and B days (A days its Oceanography and B days its Global Theater), and then on A days I have one more class right after (Global Music) that starts at 14:10 and goes until 15:30, but on B days Im done for the day at 14:00.
or I might take a nap if I didnt that morning. Ill typically head to dinner with friends around 18:30. After dinner, theres usually a lot of clubs that meet. So far, Ive been to stargazing club, ping pong club, sunset club, card games club, of course board games club, and a bunch of other ones. There are also sometimes events going on for students in the Union, so I might go to one of those if it sounds interesting. Late at night Ill usually head up to Lido Terrace and play board games with some friends until late at night, like 1:00 or 2:00am. But weve been know to go as late as 4:00am!
The photos are both of Maggies Global Music class, which is her favorite. In one she is in the pink mask playing a percussion instrument - all the students were playing different percussion instruments from around the world. In the other, her class was out on deck learning a Croatian dance!
She says the food on ship is beginning to feel repetitive and very carb heavy, but that just makes the food all that better! She and another friend made a point of introducing themselves to every student who lived in a cabin on their deck (4th deck) during this last long stretch at sea, so that was fun. There has definitely been some frustration among the voyagers with the program administration around the COVID protocols, but all in all Maggie is having a great time, meeting friends and absolutely loving seeing new parts of the world. We suspect well have a tough time keeping her when this is all over!
Shes on WhatsApp if anyone would like to reach out to her directly. Thank you again to everyone who helped make this trip possible for her - it truly is the experience of a lifetime!
