Filled up with fuel as we left Blanes at a fully automated garage. Goodness knows what you do if it eats your card. Motorway all the way and we have been down some of these same stretches of busy motorway before when weve visited Barcelona and Tarragona. At least 10 years ago though but probably busier now than before. Lots of trucks sharing the road and sometimes our lane. Delighted to find all the toll stations are out of action which made the drive cheaper than it might have been. As usual the views were on Bobs side so the camera missed most of them. The scenery is varied with mountainous backdrops in places, lots and lots of fruit plantations and to the left, the sea side, towering blocks of flats. The weather was really overcast as we left the campiste and remained so for 2/3rds of the drive ...but as we got further south it warmed up and actually reached a rather astonishing 23 degrees by the time we were in Valencia. The bad news on that is that the good weather will be replaced by a cold spell and some rain for the next 6 days.. that covers all our time at this most southerly point, where we had most chance of warmer weather but it has been very good to us so far. Our route took us right through the middle of Valencia which was a bit of a suprise as had expected to bypass the centre as we were heading beyond the city itself. Somehow we found ourselves out the other side in a remarkably short space of time given that this is Spains third largest city. We passed some very impressive buildings as we came out of the city and then were suddenly back in the countryside and heading down past a wetlands area which borders our campsite. Albufera Natural Park. An astonishing number of egrets were hanging about on the first lagoon we passed and there seemed to be herons of all sorts as we drove further along. Amused to see another Chausson motorhome in front and UK at that. Have seen so few motorhomes on the road and certainly no other Uk ones so when it turned into our Campsite is absolutely fine. 75% Netherlands but it looks as if they are on some sort of a rally as lots were sitting around having a bit of a party. We needed a leg stretch so headed across the road to the beach. Our little map said 800m but by the time we had found the sea we had stopped believing it. Amazing beach, wonderful soft sand, no gritty bits this time and hardly anyone on it. Not surprising really with the walk to get there and cannot imagine doing that in mid summer when it is hot and not just 23 degrees. Had a paddle, of course and then walked back. Not as far on the way back but it never is, is it ! Campsite is much better value than the last. We paid $23 a night for that Plus $4 for wifi and that was only usable on one device, my laptop. The showers were too far away to use, shop and restaurant closed. Here it is $18 and that includes unlimited wifi, handy showers, shop and restaurant etc. Everything open except the pool. And weve used ACSI at both sites so this is obivously much better. Good thing we booked, we took the very last pitch.
