Today is our last full day in Gulf Shores. Saint Patricks Day. We woke up to a beautiful day today. Sunny and warm. After an early morning walk on the beach with Leo we had a pancake breakfast made by Pedro. We had honey for our pancakes.
After breakfast we headed to town to explore. We found a second dog park in town at the state park. We had tried to find this one earlier in the week, but Srirachas phone did not have the proper directions. This park was mainly a tourist park. The other one in town is where the locals seemed to go. The state park dog park was on the river. There was a sign posted warning the humans of possible alligators, but fortunately dogs dont read. There were no alligators basking in the sun and the dogs at the park were soon all splashing and running along the bank in the water. They looped in and around and then back out, sometimes shaking off next to the humans who did not enjoy the experience as much as the dogs. It is amazing how much the dogs seem to enjoy meeting new
friends at the parks. Sniff, sniff, and then it is off and running and playing like they have known each other for years!
Next, we headed along the path towards the pier and beach area. We took the walk over the bridge over the highway and then headed to the pier. No pets allowed on the pier or the beach area. Looked like the pier was popular for fishing. Signs up as you had to pay to go out. $2 for pedestrians and $9 for fishing. We looked around the beach and pier area and then headed back to the truck.
Lunch was at a nice seafood place called De Sotos. They did not allow dogs inside, but they did have an outdoor sitting area. There was not formal service in the outdoor area, but they allowed you to order your food to go and then brought it out to you there anyway. It was good seafood. Lots of locals going in and out for lunch. Many were dressed in their best St. Pattys Day gear. Some were out since early in the day doing the pub crawl visiting all of the local places. We were more focused
We walked to a local souvenir shop. Leo and Lori stayed out and waited while the others shopped. Leo was ready to pose for another picture. He was happy to pretend that he was a lifeguard on top of the pretty red chair. It looks like he is holding up his paw posing, but he was actually holding up his sore paw from his beach and park running. He has a worn spot on the one paw from running. It seems he forgets about it every time he is running around at the dog park.
We stopped at the Dollar store to get a couple more boogie boards for our final afternoon at the beach. We headed back to our Morgantown home and then to the beach. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon. Definitely not a hot day at the beach, but about 72 F and sunny. It seems there were not too many from up north there as we were nearly the only ones actually in the water. Most were on the beach making sand castles and playing beach games. The
water was again cool, but once you were in it and playing in the waves were had a great time trying to catch the waves. It was not as windy as it had been, so the waves were tamer, but still a fun time.
We had nice dinner at our house in Morgantown. Sriracha and Lori ran to Sassy Bass Market to get some seafood for dinner. Picked out the fresh mahi mahi and red snapper. We spent the evening playing some card games and watching March Madness basketball.
