It has been a funny old week . It still feels odd not to see Gabby on the front drive . We still receive copies of Practical Motorhome - the last may have arrived this week . We will continue to receive MMM magazine until the end of the year. We have spent time ringing the Netherlands to stop the ACSI card , cancelling the Camping and Caravan club memberships and cancelling this and that . Each call reminds us we no longer are part of the fraternity of motorhomers . It still feels odd . Alerts set up to show us deals on holiday homes, gites and hotels . Train Line booked to tell us when cheap train tickets are issued and we continually talk about Eurostar and trips to continent made in different ways . Covid boosters and flu injections out of the way and Autumn is upon us . The mornings are getting darker and the lights are going on earlier every evening . We are only a few weeks away from the end of British Summer Time . . It should be an easier game than the midweek one . Parking was a strange one at the university . We missed our usual spot and it seemed that there were more vehicles there early today . We walked to the Turf and picked up our burger which we ate standing in the Autumn sunshine . The wind was keen but if we found a sunny spot it was pleasant . Our usual cafe was not full today but seemed a bit hectic . The card reader failed to work and the waitresses seemed not able to get on top of the orders . We picked up our coffees in the end . A BOGOF offer - buy one get one free thanks to our loyalty card . Our final stop before the match was to stop and see the Knife Angel which had been moved to a temporary spot on Queens Square . I had seen this statue before when I visited the Iron Works where it was made with Jo and Woolly . It was one of our regular meet up to catch up on life . I dont know whether Queens Square was the best place to site the statue made up of thousands of knives confiscated and donated by police forces to reinforce the message about knife crime . YOu can write all you like about killing with knives but seeing all these made up into the body and wings of the Knife Angel makes it more immediate and poignant . Many stood in front of it taking it in. Perhaps they had never seen it before . Perhaps like us it was the second viewing . It seemed more rusty than the last time I saw it . The knives as I moved round were no longer silver and polished but seemed rusty red. That took nothing away from the message . I believe it was to be set up in London where knife crime is high. The Mayor in his wisdom chose not to allow it to be sited . Londons loss meant that provincial towns and cities had the opportunity to ask for the Knife Angel to be sited for a month in their towns . It was to Wrexham before Covid but at least it had finally made an appearance . in the setting of the church I wondered . Perhaps but that was further out of town. At least here it would be seen as folks walked into the council offices . They could ponder on it whilst they sat and drank their coffee . It was certainly a talking point . It would be lit up at night . That was another date to add to the diary . I have never seen it at night . I would just have to wait a few weeks to fulfil that idea. And what of the football ? We scored 7 . We leaked in 5 goals . Some thought it entertaining which it was . Some buried their heads in their hands as the defence showed its weaknesses . A game we won and with all those goals . I would have been happy with a 2 - 0 . And there was bunting up on the street . It gave a jaunty look to the town /city centre .
