This entry will be brief... mainly because it is now the 21st April and I have half forgotten what we did on the 14th March but need to add my blog here so I can remember when I refer back to this when I am old ??
We had forgotten just how much we enjoy driving through France. Not on the motorways where I find it hard to stay awake and where there is little chance of pointing my camera at an interesting building or a colourful tree, but on the N roads. The roads which are easily wide enough for the motorhome to pass along without mishap but which pass through pretty villages where the building styles are forever changing as we cross from one region to another. Where we can pull up outside a boulangerie and pop in for a fresh baguette and maybe a delicious patisserie (I never find cakes in Tesco or Waitrose to those I find in the villages and towns of France). The N roads which can be so straight that we can see 2 miles along and not another vehicle in sight. Where the trees arch in a very French way
across the roads. The trees on this trip bare of leaves which is something we have not seen on any previous French trip as always before we have been in Summer. The trees this time are just starting to bud and the further north we get the more blossom appears on the trees and bushes.
This was a drive through Central France. We crossed the Dordogne at one point and at another stopped by a small river for a leg stretch at a really attractive little spot.
The weather had very kindly restored itself to being dry though the sun was totally awol. Just a hazy shape somewhere up in a thick murky layer of cloud.
Bob had set me the task of finding a motorhome aire to stop the night but I went one better and found a proper campsite. Excellent, as though we did 3 nights without electric hookup on the way down, with the spare day we had gained from our early departure from Spain, we have 4 nights in France so really prefered to get things charged up. I phoned ahead to the campsite just to make sure it really was open and yes
This was at La Chatre, a little village somewhere along the way near a little river. We were the only campers and had the heated sanitaires all to ourselves.
Camping Val Vert en Berry. A super green spot for an overnight spot and open all year round which is worth remembering if we decide to travel this time of year again. There is even a pool... maybe leave that one for warmer times. La Chatre also looks well worth a stroll but we didnt have time for that. Being only March it gets dark too early to do anything in the evenings.
