We were taking our time this morning and I was working at the table when I noticed a right into the campground. He hung out and ate until being spooked by a big class A came by and scared him off. After this we drove to Jester Park, IA to camp for the night.
Nates perspective for the day: Today was just a short drive an hour between campsites for a one night stop over to see the High Trestle Bridge near Des Moines, Iowa. I was in disbelief on how easy the drive and set up went. We got in, we had lunch, we went to downtown to get gas, and we went to 2 thrift stores. I got lucky and found another travel toolbox. We came back to the trailer. Tina caught up on some work while I spent some time organizing the truck and trailer.
We left the trailer just before dark to head to the High Trestle bridge. We solely rely on the GPS and sometimes it sends us out of the way or to crazy roads. This time it was a good out the way find; it took us to
the back of the campground where we were able to view elk inside the elk and bison exhibit. We hurried along in order to see the bridge before dark. The bridge is half a mile long, 110 ft above the waterway, and contains geometric shapes above the bridge itself that are lit with blue LED lighting. We arrived just before dark, got the bikes set up, and headed out on a trail marked bike trail. Filmed a rabbit and a couple of deer. Out of my excitement I forgot to mount the phone on the bike. So, while taping and holding the phone I entered a decline to fast and discovered at the bottom that the trail had been eroded by the rain. I could not stop or maneuver quickly enough to avoid a crash. I landed hard on my left side. I was in fear that I broke a rib. Despite this we continued as I winced in pain. We caught the tail end of the sunset and many deer on the banks of the river below. We crossed over to the other side of the bridge waiting on darkness. After dark approached, we road our bikes back in
forth many times. We tried to film the magnificence of the blue lights as we road under the geometric arches. See video at this link:
Writing this the next day I am still very sore and having a hard time lifting my arms. Investigating my road rash this morning I found an odd spot. After looking closer found it to be a tick. Thankfully it does not appear that he was there long, we were able to remove it quite easily, and we sealed it in a bag just in case needed for testing. Fingers crossed and prayers for no Lyme disease.
