I couldnt believe it! I got a campsite at Bicentennial from Saturday to Monday on Memorial Day weekend! There are just 3 sites at this coveted location. Optimal days on a long weekend? It was meant to be!! We spent Saturday morning doing the usual; visiting choo choo in town and whatnot. After lunch, we packed up the car and hit the road close to 2 pm. As we approached the city, the sun was starting to be covered by fog. That fog became thicker as we went further north. San Francisco was crowded. Lots of cars and the pedestrian side of the Golden Gate Bridge had no break of people braving the fog. By the time we got to Marin Headlands, it grey. After so many years, I just cant get myself to expect this from sunny South Bay. On the way, we realized we forgot to bring diapers, doh! There was no way around it during the night. After setting up the tent, we hit the store in Sausalito. When we came back, the fog was getting thicker yet. We barely had a view of the bottom half of the GGB before dinner We had site 3. A friendly couple was at site 2 from the previous night. Site 1 showed up after us. Both parties were long gone inside the tent before it got dark at 9 pm and it was way past the bedtime for this tot. Too much liquid! I had to hit the potty at 10 pm and 1 am, ouch. Otherwise, it was a super quiet and night. V woke up at sunrise and had an amazing view of the GGB. Y and I also got up and admired the view. Site 1 also woke up and came to see the view, then said, You wanna hear a weird story? We woke up at around 9 pm, and guess what we sawfish, ya, fish!. Did I hear that right? Fish in the middle of the woods?! According to her and her party, there were at least 15 fresh fish right by their tent. Some of them were bitten. They took pictures and they were, poof, gone in the morning. They also warned Yesterdays mist was all gone. It was a gorgeous day. After breakfast, we hit Rodeo Beach. It was still early but the beach already had a handful of dog walkers and a bunch of surfers. Y had been on his new toy vehicles since we got to the campsite and had more blast with them at the beach. Pelicans were in full force flying between the ocean and the lagoon. We had a great view of it all. It was windy but the sand was warm behind the big log. Back to the campsite for lunch. Site 2 had also packed up and left but we werent lonely as a group of day users found a home on the empty tables. Point Bonita Lighthouse is right around the corner from the campsite and it was closed last July. Its since been opened and we were curious to check it out. Thats when we realized that the tourists didnt stop at the GGB. Little did we know that this lighthouse was a tourist mecca. The cars were oozing out everywhere and there was no break in people flowing in and out of the trail. It was 2 pm, just in time before 3:30 closing. After going down the slope overlooking the ocean and the seal rock, the gate was open. The gate leads into a tunnel. After a short walk through the narrow path along the cliff, we reached the final entrance to the hanging bridge to the lighthouse. The lighthouse had 49 people capacity and the ranger was letting people in as people came out. Going on the hanging bridge in a strong wind was with Y on the Piggyback Rider. Hold on tight Y! What a view! No wonder this place was packed. There is no place like it! Y played more in the dirt while dinner was being cooked. We managed the time better today and we all passed out by 8 pm. It was a windy night. I made sure I went to the potty before it got dark at 9 pm. Thinking about the fish, I couldnt rest easy as I was praying that I wouldnt have to go again. The next thing I knew, I heard the birds chirping, yay made it! It was another sunny day! June gloom no more! Y decided he wanted to play in the sand again. Rodeo Beach was still the best bet. Its close and its gorgeous! More pelican sightings and had another relaxing morning by the beach.
