This morning we woke up and prepared breakfast - fried eggs on brioche toast with Swiss cheese. Shelley made her tea, and I brewed up some Chock Full ‘O Nuts coffee that I had bought at Walmart the night before.
With breakfast done, we turned our attention to getting the RV ready for our trip from our campsite to park it up at the Ferry Terminal in Hingham, Massachusetts. The parking lot was huge and cost $2.00 bucks to park for the day. We took the ferry across the harbour from HIngham to Boston landing right at the edge of downtownsteps away from the Quincy Market.
We had Maggie in her backpack carrier and she loved being able with us. Today is Maggies 1st birthday, so she spent it in style.
From the ferry, we walked up towards Downtown stop. Initially, Shelley was planning to spend some time hanging around alone in Boston while I made my way to the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. The reason for this was because we didnt think that Maggie would be permitted with us to the Kennedy Library. But I called and asked if lil Chihuahuas would
Walking through downtown Boston and seeing all the various buildings and architecture; the greenery and history all enveloping you - its a beautiful city.
The Kennedy Presidential Museum and Library is a beautiful building. The dirt was turned and dedicated in 1977 and of the building was finished in 1979. Jackie Kennedy along with the assent of the Kennedy family chose that spot for it to be built because it was by the water and was reminiscent of the type of view and function of sailing and thoughtful contemplation Jack Kennedy enjoyed in Hyannis Port.
The museum houses some pretty nifty items. There were quite a few ongoing video presentations to watch and listen to. Many of Kenneys own speeches and notes were displayed for us to see. I was surprised at the type on some of them; made sense seeing how big the type was. It was also neat to see the places where Kennedy added ab lib things to his speeches on the fly that his speechwriters didnt intend. Beautiful.
we made our way back to downtown and walked from the station to the Boston Common. We walked a good length of it so that I could visit Peretti and pick up some decent pipe tobacco. It was here outside that Shelleys daughter Kristen did a video call with us and the grandchildren showing us their new back yard swing/play set that Brandon assembled. What fun!
We then walked back to the Quincy Market and the ferry terminal to catch the return ferry to Hingham where our parked RV awaited us. The RV was just as we left it - safe ‘n sound. We piled in and drove the three minutes to stop at Trader Joes and Shelley went in to buy some goodies for us all.
Shelley and I enjoyed a fine feast courtesy of Trader Joes - Greek salad to start with Greek chicken and Rice Pilaf for me. Vegan Enchilada Casserole for Shelley. She loves going Trader Joes because she gets overwhelmed as there is so much to see and want to buy. They didnt have the ‘two dollar wine, which was disappointing.
For those with large RVs: We camped at the Boston/Cape Cod KOA in Middleborough, MA. We then drove up to Hingham and parked the RV in the very large parking lot located beside the Hingham Ferry Terminal. You pay for the parking on your phone, using the parking app. It cost us $2.00 for the day on a Sunday. You then buy your tickets for the ferry (return) and it brings you from Hingham across the bay to Boston at the main wharf. Youre now just a short walk to either the downtown area, or one of the MTBA stations to catch the subway to wherever you want to go. This worked out flawlessly for us.
