We left Kinvarra and backtracked by about 40 minutes, driving north to Galway City. We wandered around a bit, finding a couple of cutsey little streets to explore, and I splashed out on an Aran knitted dress. Its being posted to my home, so Im hoping itll be waiting for me next week. As we both needed break, we went into Finnegans, a building pertaining to be the oldest medieval restaurant in the city. It was rather spoilt inside by the 3 television screens and loud modern music. Still, we were both when we left. Susan looked it up on Trip Advisor, and suggests its the worst restaurant in Ireland; it certainly isnt the best! Susan spotted some street art of musicians and singers from the last 50 years or so; we managed to identify the majority, but there are a few we cant get. Can you help? Middle image, ?, Jim Morrison, Marylin Monroe, ?, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, ?, ?, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley We visited the cathedral next, stopping on the way across the bridge to watch some fishermen in the river. There were salmon visible in the shadows under the bridge, and we were desperate to see a catch, but in the end the salmon were cleverer than the fishermen, and while we were watching, none were caught. The cathedral was very different to the ones weve seen so far. It was built in the 1960s, so was more modern with a central altar, a large dome over the top, and pews facing the altar from all sides of the building. Once we left, we headed back to the cutsey streets to find some food, then headed to Boots for me to replace the shampoo, conditioner and shower gel that I managed to leave behind about 3 stops ago. Heading back towards the car on a different route through the streets, we found the very interesting Latin Quarter, with lots of lovely little shops and restaurants, and it would have been great to have discovered this area a bit earlier. We explored around here for a while, sampling some mango ice cream from Murrays of Dingle. Were staying in Dingle in a couple of days, and will definitely be visiting their shop for ice cream at the seaside. We wandered over to the harbour to look at the boats, and noticed 6 huge lorries queued up, each loaded with around 28 large bales of recycling. These bales were being loaded into a container ship – we hope theyre being taken somewhere to be correctly disposed of! We arrived at our next property after a minor glitch in the navigation. Its just outside a village called Bruree near another village with the wonderful name of Ballyfookeen, and sits adjacent to a farm house on a working cattle farm. We sat on the patio area with a glass of wine, admiring the view over the fields, watching the swallow swoop around, and failing to get the goat in the nearby field and say hello. Once the temperature fell we decanted indoors, had sea bass and peas for supper, then had a girlie evening in front of the TV with wine, chocolate and face packs. No photos of that will be posted!
