Having arrived in the late afternoon the previous day, we had not explored much of this town on the eastern bank of the Nam Song (Song River). However, we had the whole day ahead of us, and we were intent on getting out of town and into the caves on the western side of the river.
We woke late and had a late breakfast – it was the first time wed taken it easy in Laos. The buffet breakfast at Ph Read on...
First stop this morning is the Murtoa Stick Shed. We read that until the outbreak of World War 2 Australia typically exported around sixty percent of its wheat to Great Britain and Western Europe. The War thus caused a glut, and the Stick Shed was thrown up in only four months in late 1941 and early 1942 to store some of the excess.
We watch a short video presentation before entering the structur Read on...
The morning started out overcast and cool. We both slept in a bit, and then got a slow start to the day, doing some reading. it looked like the weather was going to clear, so we took a walk to the beach.
The beach is around a 20 min walk away. As the weather wasnt ideal, we had it to ourselves at first. Lots of big homes along it.
Before long, we were joined by one dog, who was very friendly. S Read on...
A lot has happened since I was on the phone to the holiday on Friday 13th March 2020 (unlucky for some.us) as I was bafflingly being told we had to fly out to a country who had already closed their borders due to the COVID outbreak. Thankfully, 24 hours later, theyd seen some sense and we then began the arduous process of claiming everything back and have now waited nearly two years for the opport Read on...
It was good to see Becka back doing tours in Okinawa. A knowledgable guide and explaining how Okinawa consists of 160 large and small islands including 47 inhabited islands.
During the Pacific War, Okinawa was the site of the only land battle in Japan that involved civilians. After the war, Okinawa was placed under the administration of the United States. In 1972, Okinawa was returned to Japanese Read on...
This is my third attempt to cycle in Croatia, maybe the fourth? Previous trips were scuttled due to Covid, or the reluctance of the tour operator. No matter, here we are, ready to go, despite the war in the Ukraine, and the chaos in the Balkans. I land in Frankfurt, and immediately head to Athens for a few days, to acclimate (jet lag mostly), see my friends (my Greek brothers), and move south to n Read on...

The guy on the phone yesterday told me the welding shop opened at eight. I got up at seven, had a banana and gathered some tools to remove the bracket with the broken tab from my motorcycle. Its not a big job and Ive done it enough times that its not at all intimidating. I did forget that the muffler needs to be removed though. No biggie, two more bolts. I grabbed a protein bar, some peanuts and m Read on...
When we woke up today we found there was finally no road workers in place out the front of the hotel and I was pleased Kerry had a great nights sleep. This hotel has been a great place to stay in Burlington, but today it is time to move on and we are traversing Route 100 south along the Mad River Valley which is a famous Vermont Scenic Byway, and yes the Mad River is the correct name !

I have just finished reading a book on football programmes. I know it wouldnt be a normal topic of conversation in a travelblog, but bear with me. The plot of the book - if you can call it as such - features a transatlantic relocation and a choice. A difficult choice! Which of your extensive programme collection have you space to bring with you. You envisage a few hundred in a small suitcase, but Read on...
