Again, I love the colours of this historic citys alleys. What you cannot appreciate is the smells of delicious foods.
I had to take the train back to Milans central train station to pick up my luggage. I thought I was heading into a new direction towards France but my train went through Pavia, where I started the morning. Milans central train station is a beast when you hit it the first time when Read on...
The weather forecast had had warnings for the past 2 days and overnight the rain arrived in Lake Tekapo although it wasnt loud enough on the roof of our to wake us.
However, as daylight increased and the mountain and lake scenery that had been there yesterday didnt reappear it seemed clear that the rain was going to be with us for a good part of the day.
And so it turned out and finally we had a Read on...
As promised, although I dont think I actually did... but here are my favorite Maine State Parks and Historical Sites. I think Im going to try and rank them... we shall see.
This may have gotten on the list because it was the final stamp we needed. Not many people are going camping up in Northern Maine, with that being said, it makes for a relaxing and quiet destination.

I need to stop visiting surf towns since I dont surf. They rarely equate to nice beaches and I was a bit disappointed to find a black sand beach at San Carlos. Id ventured onto the beach fairly far before I realized the sand was burning my feet. I did a sprint back to the dirt road, looking around afterwards to see if anyone was watching this ridiculous scene.
The next morning I went for a walk Read on...
Breakfast at the La Quinta was the best. It was like any other hotel breakfast but, just like any other kid, I LOVED the waffle maker. The waffles were in the shape of Texas! I want a waffle maker that makes waffles in the shape of WV!!
We didnt have as far to travel today, which was refreshing after our long travel day yesterday. This part of Texas was a mostly flat, farming community

Jeff and I started consuming our takeout meals in local parks. We discovered quite a few new parks this way. Nowadays, we are frequently on the lookout for picnic tables as we drive around. In this photo, which was taken in Kahala, I am eating a mushroom pizza from Angelo Pietro, while Jeff holds up a slice of cheesecake from Otto Cake.
I started writing this as an intro paragraph on my New York Read on...
Pennsylvania boasts its own Grand Canyon along Pine Creek. You can get the best view from Colton Point State Park. The morning ride north from Cedar Run is the last long forest run. I was up early. The wood was quiet and cool. I lost on this section last year. This time I was right on target, and nailed the park first time. Being alone at the view point made it that much better.

After that aromatic visit to Dupnitsa, our tour bus continued on to the Rila Mountains. Rila Monastery is situated up in the Rila Mountains some 75 miles (121 km) from Sofia. Its been an important Bulgarian cultural and religious site for centuries, with the oldest part dating to the 15th century. Rila Monastery was founded earlier, however, in the 10th century by St John of Rila 946). He is rega Read on...
Due to COVID19, its currently only open to guests staying at the lodge. For us, that meant it was quite empty.
We woke up to a much more promising day at Crater Lake National Park. Now that the snow has stopped and the fog has lifted, the view from our lodge room is stunning. We can see Wizard Island from our window!
Crater Lake used to be a large mountain. Actually, scratch that, it was (and is Read on...
We were awoken at 5:30 this morning by an elephant shaking the tree right in front of our tent - what a cool way to wake up! We lounged in bed for a bit, then later enjoyed breakfast (we both had a very nice breakfast plate with fried potatoes, mushrooms, and two small very light pancakes - quite thin, and very tasty) along with fresh fruit. Susan had sausage and bacon with hers. We packed up and Read on...
