Leaving Goulburn early it was cold – the phone said it was 4 degrees but it felt less. We had so many layers on that we both looked like Michelin Men – if we had fallen off we would have bounced all the way to our next destination!
Heading firstly on the M31 which we soon got sick of, we turned off, leaving the motorway into a small town for a breakfast and to warm up. After our stop we took Read on...
As we awake after a good nights sleep after the Turkish Border crossing its difficult to understand why we both feel more calm, for sure the nights sleep has helped no dogs barking all night, no call to prayer (loved it, just not at 5am) but its more than that?!? I think travel (and I again reiterate we wouldnt change it) for the last 4 months our countries of travel have had their own unique chal Read on...
After an unsuccessful attempt at getting a ride from San Juan de Nicaragua to Bluefields by boat, we grudgingly got on a 5 AM Express (and vastly boat back to San Carlos (on the good advice of Freddy, the shark fin guy from Managua). Of course the military searched our bags thoroughly as we were getting on, drinking our sweet instant coffee from a styrofoam cup. We had a quick stop over in El Cast Read on...
Having spent the past three weeks exploring the Victorian Alps, the time had to say farewell to the mountains and make my way back to Melbourne, via the rural city of Wangaratta. But rather than simply hopping on a coach for the kilometre trip from Bright (possibly my favourite small town in Australia) I wanted to get there in a way that would do justice to the wondrous scenery to be found all al Read on...
Since you have been reading my emails over the years, you know how much we enjoy walking big cities, and interesting towns. There is no better way to discover the culture and beauty of a place, save for a walking tour by a local. But, since I am not a tour guy, exploring on my own, or with Mr. Mike is the best alternative. What might some of those cities be? Over the years, some cities we have wal Read on...
We started out our day, after a delicious breakfast of course, with a tour of Lisbon. Our local guide Leonore was great! The first portion of the tour was just a bus ride through Lisbon, pointing out some of the squares and a little of the local history. Lisbon proper isd about 800,000 people. But it has a traditional outside the city of about another 2 million people, many of whom work in the cit Read on...
Well, today was a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Botanical Garden again, for a full 3 hours. Yes it was hot, but it was worth it. Hope you enjoy the photos of the flowers and trees.
One of the big hits of the day was seeing a huge Blue Iguana on the loose (sorry the photo is only partial of him, as he was making tracks through the brush), and an AGOUTI !! also in the same historical farm area of th Read on...
The Bangkok Flower Market (Pak Khlong Talat in Thai), is Thailands largest wholesale flower market and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Some say that Pak Khlong Talat is now one of the worlds largest flower markets.
We started with our tour guide Kay, a lovely guy, on Memorial Bridge, a green and beige bascule bridge built over the Chao Phraya River. It was inaugurated in 1932 by King Rama Read on...
We arrived in Santorini and it was as beautiful as it is in the photos with the blue domes and the white buildings. We found an amazing spot to have lunch, and of course a drink, which seemed to hang off the cliff front - probably why the bill was quite large for what we had but hey ho we are on holiday. Not much else to tell you about apart from it is a stunning island.
The next day we sailed to Read on...
The lockdown has now eased to allow overnight stays. Hotels have opened up. Pubs are allowed to have indoor drinkers. Attractions and cinemas can with limited numbers. However, the Spring weather has been shocking. Hospitality has had a slow from the long hibernation. The most hardy and desperate of drinkers must have winced about sitting outside in the cold and damp just to savour a pint. There Read on...
