A quick August getaway was a second cruise to Bermuda. Our first Bermuda cruise, which Ive written about in these pages, was in 2010. had put off cruising for three years. Carnival Legend was sailing out of Baltimore on Bermuda and Bahamas cruises. Baltimore is only an hour away, making it a convenient departure point. With that we made a reservation and arrived at Cruise Baltimore at 1:50 p.m. o Read on...
Celebrating Zahra, our seamstress extraordinaire! Julie set a beautiful table; a delicious and lovely meal was shared by all! We started the New Year off right, with a ladies brunch to celebrate our dear seamstress friend, Zahra. She has done so much for our group of gringa friends and refuses to charge us very much if anything at all! Julie hosted the brunch on a sunny morning. Her living room/d Read on...
In late 18th century a flood wave flushed out large amounts of sand and debris towards the coast. The sand was deposited in the mouth of the river creating the largest river delta in Sweden. An igloo in summer, a battle site in a country that has had peace for more than 200 years and a nature reserve to preserve the aftermath of a nature disaster We decided to stay in Sweden during our vacation Read on...
Written in 2012: Again, the only reason to go to Maryland is to have crab cakes on the Chesapeake, see an Orioles game at Camden Yards, or visit the great Naval Academy in Annapolis. To think I almost went to graduate school in old downtown Baltimore at Johns Hopkins! It was the seventh state to ratify the Constitution. Though it is a small state, it is the fifth most densely populated and the nin Read on...

What an absolute pearler of a morning and although our room at the Te Kaha Resort essentially faced west it was still quite magical to see the pink appear in the clear sky out our bedroom window. One of little luxuries with this 3 night,4 day road trip is that neither of has to prepare breakfast for the other. So it was two poached eggs with bacon on toast and a hot strong, long black to go with Read on...
Feel utterly fatigued this morning, really sluggish. Initially I wonder if its the river water that we are washing everything in but ultimately decide its probably altitude related. I have absolutely no appetite for breakfast (like in Nepal as we were ascending), but make myself eat something as we have a big day ahead. We are aiming to camp past Yachikul Lake, it involves an overall 400m further Read on...
Today was all about the funeral of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth ll. We couldnt be there but we have the laptop and I made sure we had a reliable wifi signal (thanks to the kind campsite reception who supplied me with a special sign on 😊) so we could watch the broadcast by the BBC. Before it began I took a stroll along to the little marina just by the campsite. An absolutely stunning morning w Read on...
I drove West from Monarch Pass on US Hwy 50 and saw a warning sign (on Colorado Interstate and US Highways) warning people of the statewide fire hazards and not to burn. Getting near Gunnison, Colorado I saw a neat old church. In Gunnison I got gasoline, food, other supplies that I needed for camping in the I turned North on State Hwy 135 for Crested Butte. (At Crested Butte all supplies are fair Read on...
