If I could give this year a defining word (in my personal experience) Id say the word is: Colombia. Not only did Disney just release a new movie last month about Colombia titled Encanto, which honestly blew my mind, but we also got to take a whirl wind trip all around Colombia. I got to finally meet my blood relatives that live on the Colombian coast. Meeting them actually brought me so much closu Read on...
Occupying the northwest shoulder of the African continent, Morocco is rich with history and full of color. For some, its essence can be found in the bustling souks and walled medinas of Imperial Cities like Marrakesh and Fez. For others, the country is typified by the plunging sand dunes, camel trains, and Bedouin villages of the Sahara Desert. There is something for every kind of traveler in Moro Read on...
We drove into Michigan today and set up camp in Lake Gogebic State Park, MI. The roads up north tend to be a lot bumpier making it hard to work on with detailed information, but I have been pushing on. I am so grateful to be able to continue to work on the road, but it does add stress to the trip. Sometimes I wish we were moving slower staying at each place longer, but there is so much to see in s Read on...
We had read about the sunrise on the red cliffs at Ardrossan being spectacular so we were up before the sun and off to the Ardrossan jetty to take photos. While waiting for the sun to rise we met a Golden Retriever puppy named Gus and chatted to the locals fishing for squid and blue swimmer crabs. At 7.10am the sun rose behind a bank of clouds so we had to wait a little longer before the sun rose Read on...
Phew. Still incredibly hot but a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday. Fortunately we dont need to cycle or walk in the full sunshine or even ride the scooter as we would have done on previous trips. Just trying to be sensible and limit the time we are fully exposed to the sun as it really is lethally hot. We first of all visited Limeuil which is just over the bridge across the Dordogne. On a Read on...
It was a cold but fine winters day. Where would you expect to find a Kiwi grandmother with her two young grandkids? At the beach of course! Ototoka Beach is about 30 minutes drive from Wanganui. It is located at the end of Ototoka Beach Road at Maxwell. I always drive north from Wanganui, turning left onto Rapanui Road (look for the Bason Botanical Gardens sign opposite the BP Station), and then Read on...
On our way to this campground Nate stopped off at a few parts stores to see what the stock was for 16 spark plugs since the closest part store to the campground was 30 minutes. Of course, none of them in the area had 16 spark plugs in stock so we ordered them. Due to the distance from the campground, we decided it would be best to change them by the auto store just in case something went wrong. Su Read on...
We awoke to another absolute cracker day in Karamea and the sound of the two milk tankers on the nearby SH67 that travel 234km each way every day to and from Hokitika on SH6 and SH67 to pick up milk from the 29 dairy farms in the Karamea region. Actually the tankers dont really make much noise it is just that with so little and going into Karamea that there is for road noise from other traffic on Read on...
Google maps has been invaluable at helping us find our way between destinations and also providing some ‘enrichment in the routes chosen. Todays adventure started off well with another delicious breakfast in the courtyard, but things went somewhat downhill from there. First descent was when child #1 noticed in an absolute panic that she had left her favourite toy in the bed at the hotel, precis Read on...
As was decided the night before, the alarm went off at 5.00am. All that was left to do was to visit the loo, shut the windows on the caravan, grab the iced coffee from the fridge, disconnect the power and of course check the tyres were all still inflated, before we were out of there promptly at 5.15am. All was quiet in the caravan park. Even the wind was quiet. We exited as quietly as we could. Read on...
