Our last few days in Saudi Arabia continues to delight and amaze. There seems to be no end to the variety of things to see and do. But then again, were just giddy tourists drinking in what this country has to offer. Its not that we are easily amused, we just never tire of taking in our surroundings and learning more about this desert nation. The western tourists will definitely enjoy their time he Read on...
If there is one word which now underpins the current journey, it has to be uncertainty. What was put out on media platforms as fact and latest update last week on the trajectory of the coronavirus is turned on its head a week later. Consider the following; schools are under huge pressure globally to on the basis that people younger than 18 years of age dont get infected at the same rate as older Read on...
I am asked, most often, by friends and relatives, about the best food countries I have visited. MSNs The Manual has listed their favorites, by continent. I will share theirs, then add my favorites. Europe Italy and France always dominate most surveys and food writers choices. I first developed a fondness for some French food back in the 70s. I had a girlfriend who studied at the Sorbonne in France Read on...
The last time I was on the West Coast of Ireland, I experienced the air as so clean, so refreshingly sharp, so sweet, that I gulped. Inhaling as quickly and as deeply as I could, filling my otherwise polluted London lungs from the City with clean Atlantic air. This time was no different. Landing at Shannon Airport, County Clare, I recalled how much I enjoyed the quiet, friendly, simplicity of it. Read on...

North of Barsola on TX Hwy 1911 I saw a sign for the Arnold Cemetery and I drove a short distance from the road to the cemetery. The Cemetery sign said that the cemetery was established in 1872. I walked through the cemetery and found most of the markers to be in the Arnold family. I suspect that the old unreadable sandstone markers were from the late 1800s. The Arnold Cemetery appears to be well Read on...
Another decent morning for cycling with a little sunshine and not too much wind. Our route was through Chatburn to Sawley and then round the radio mast, clockwise, back to Bolton by Bowland and home via Sawley and Chatburn. Our virtual journey would be leaving Valence on the Via Rhona which goes out through the port. On route we see castles perched high on rocky out crops. We pass hundreds of an Read on...
Seventy seven years ago - on 11 October 1943 - I was born in the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough; the first child of Katherine (known as Kaye) and Alfred (known as Alf) Shippam. Over the years - having lived in Sydney since 1966 - Ive made many holiday trips back to the UK and various other Read on...
Rough seas greeted our first day out. We were running though what is known as the Tongue of the Ocean, the Bahamas passage between Andros Island to the west and New Providence, Exuma and Long Island to the east. Its called the Tongue because a deep sea trench makes a curled formation between the islands. As seas were rough and the ship rolling, I guess the Tongue was giving us a licking! Andros I Read on...
