We left the albergue before 6:30, but there was so much fog we had to work to see the yellow arrows, much less any scenery. At about 8:30 we entered Gonzar and spotted the Hosteria de Gonzar, so we stopped for breakfast. Manoli and I both ordered plate with eggs and fries. I think hers had ham and mine had sausage, but my sausage was more like chorizo, so it was sort of tough. After breakfast, we Read on...
Waking long before dawn on Thursday morning - my eleventh day on the Larapinta Trail - Id not even gotten out of my tent when a group of guided hikers strode through the campsite sounding like an army battalion marching into battle. With no vehicle access between Serpentine Gorge and Ormiston Gorge 30km away, they would have to knock off that entire distance in one long day. But for those of us th Read on...
Emerald is a thriving outback town, thanks to its abundant rich soils and flat plains which support a variety of agriculture. The hinterland surrounding Emerald contains the largest sapphire gemfields in the world. In recent decades, coal has a major contributor to the wealth of the district.
After being off grid in Carnarvon Gorge and enjoying long walks, our stay in Emerald was a bit more relax Read on...
Today was our second day in Sevilla, and I must say uts pretty great to be back where its warm! Some people about the heat, but we dont mind it at all. The hotel is really nice, but somehow the just sucks. It worked perfectly yesterday afternoon when we arrived, but nobody has been able to logon since yesterday. Looks like Ill be uploading late on the bus again tomorrow. That worked out fine this Read on...
On our full day in Johannesburg, we embarked in a tour mostly consistent of apartheid significant sights.
It was nice not to have one of those ultra early wake up calls, partly because we needed a little extra time to maneuver around our hotel rooms quirkiness. It was one of those hotels with the bathroom sink and glass shower in the bedroom. They did provide a partial curtain divider, but it was Read on...
I have had some short blogs in the past but this one might just turn out to be the shortest of them all. If you go in a straight line the Hamptons is only about 20 miles away from us - the problem is there is a sound right in between us so it takes about 3 - 4 hours to get there by car. Unfortunately we have not gone there as much as we would like to.
We have made a couple short trips over the ye Read on...
I dont know much about it, apart from the distinctive exterior so am unsure what to expect, but the start is good. I didnt know about Puppy the giant flower sculpture outside the entrance, but it is different and I like it. Inside the museum it is a relief from the heat which we see reach 44C today. We have tickets in the afternoon that avoids the worst of it. but it is still hot walking around.

Amsterdam has a vast array of water canals over 100km in length, around 60 miles. These 165 canals divide the city into a series of small islands connected by over 1200 bridges, with the in 1648; the Torensluis. The majority of canals can be accessed by private boats, group tours, or rental boats with many moored on the canal edges next to houseboats. The citys bridges were built to withstand hors Read on...
It seems that when most people travel to Japan, or even just think of Japan, it is the sights on Honshu that appeal the most: Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hakone, etc. One of my aims of this little Japanese blog series is to get people to look beyond Honshu as the other islands of Japan are fantastic. However, after writing this blog and looking again at my photos, Ive why Honshu is rightly very popu Read on...
So why Liverpool? With this trip being quite fluid based on where we were asked to cat sit through Trusted Housesitters and the location and timing of being able to meet up with friends, the rest of the time was pulled together in a much different way than we normally do. Based somewhat on geography, things to see in that area, finding a place to stay at a reasonable price and easy to get to by pu Read on...
