You can just imagine that with the vast amount of air travel I have done, that I have seen some really strange behavior. Maybe bizarre would be a better term. Here they are in no particular order. Stinky First Class Yes, I was seated in First Class on a flight to Denver, but I actually had to ask the Flight Attendant if I could move back to Coach. Why? It stunk so bad, I could hardly breathe. Turn Read on...
Very recently I traveled internationally for the first time since 2019. It felt wonderful to be traveling again because when the COVID virus virtually shut down the world, I lost my nearly lust for travel. My friends were duly shocked when I told them in 2021 that I didnt want to travel anymore, and at the time I sincerely meant it! I didnt have COVID then, but I felt that some unknown malaise or Read on...
We head off for a leisurely morning stroll along the Kapalua Coastal Trail which winds its way along the shore north of here. We pass a building hanging off the cliff face, which, if Google Maps is to be believed, is the Kapalua Cliff House. Apparently its a wedding venue, and it seems its been here since the 1940s. The reviews dont however seem to mention anything about weddings, most just notin Read on...
This is the Texas State Railroad, Christmas edition on December 7, 2019. This railroad operates year round with full time employees; except in December where it is the Polar Express using temporary employees (except engineers and brakemen) that know little about the railroad. Since this is geared for children they stop at the North Pole to see Santa and elves singing and dancing. Then Santa enters Read on...
Another good day in Ireland with untypical weather I believe. The first ferry at Rathmullen was a treat to most people and was easy to ride to. The last time we did this tour we took some minor roads only to find that they were very steep and torture to some, so this time we took the easier route which actually gave us a better view of the coastline. Luckily there was a coffee kiosk at the ferry t Read on...
The Kimberley region in the far north of Western Australia is rugged, beautiful, and stunningly remote. The population is sparse and the distances are vast, but there is an option to explore the East Kimberley region from a gorgeous little base, and that is the town of Kununurra. For most of my adult life I have been intrigued by this remote town close to the border of Northern Territory, and its Read on...
Shelley and I crossed the border at Calias / St. Stephens, New Brunswick. We immediately felt relief at the change in highway conditions. Even though the rain and wind were still present, the highways were wide and gracious to us! So much more open and wide, 110 km/h maximum speed (we didnt go that fast, but cars were sure enjoying that!). We headed to Saint Johns where we stopped at a Sobeys to Read on...
Vardar is the largest river in the Republic of Macedonia. It is 388km long and its river basin covers an area of approximately 25,000 km². Skopje began as ancient Scupi. In 518 it was totally destroyed by an earthquake. A brief Slav incursion occurred in the 7th century, and in the 9th and 10th centuries the town grew rapidly. The Serbs first captured Skopje in 1189, and in 1392 the Turks after Read on...
Looking back to the high town of Laon, now from the southern side. The cathedral is still very visible.
Brutal day but spectacular. Some (too many) very steep and quite long ascents meant the pace was pretty slow although surprisingly in line with the guide book Theres an instant replay tomorrow with similar distances and similar ascents so this may be my final blog (PS Jake can have my golf clubs). Thank goodness for 2 pints of cider and a fish stew. Thanks Francis for getting us the our start at Read on...
