It is hard to believe we have been here now for a whole week . Dust . Dust . Dust everywhere . We are getting used to being covered in dust . Dust in our hair making it feel like straw. Blowing our noses and finding dust up there . It never seems to wash out . What we need is a walk to blow the cobwebs away and get rid of the dust .
I set off heading for the river . It is not far to walk to . The Read on...
With our spirits high and confident the road conditions were favourable we set off for the famous Pink Road House in Oodnadatta. Road conditions were pretty good for a while. They never really got bad but it was abundantly obvious we were driving across Sturts Stony Desert. There were gibber plains to the left and gibber plains to the right. The colours were sometimes, black, sometimes white and Read on...
Because of the Covid problems in the our hotel served breakfast for us to take. We had scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuit, fried potatoes, juice and coffee, bagel, cream cheese or butter, and breakfast bar. I was impressed at how they handled the breakfast. Many hotels would have just cancelled doing any kind of breakfast.

I set off early the next morning, wanting to have the other BDR riders behind me in case I fell. Found the village breakfast cafe ( the one the locals frequent is always the best ) and left well fed and warm. The route wandered West past a big lake and across into New Hampshire before the final Northward push to the Border. The gravel road was lined by low trees now taking on rich fall color. I wa Read on...
Into our stride now: walk to a mountain, up one end, across the top (or two), and down the other end. Once again the views were stunning, and again the bad weather didnt materialize, although it was worse than yesterday – no sun, but a few very short showers.
The ascent today was very gradual on slow, grassy paths. Eventually, however, every up is telling. I had to take more and more breaks as Read on...
Fiddling around on Youtube this morning, I entered ‘British black and white movies and came across a movie called ‘Obsession (aka ‘The Hidden Room) which I had never heard of. I looked it up on imdb, where it receives a 7.3 rating and some enthusiastic reviews.

During last evening we discussed our next moves. We were about 90km north of William Creek and 110 south of Oodnadatta. Do we abandon our attempts to get to The Painted Desert this trip and head back to William Creek and then across to Coober Pedy, knowing the road conditions as they were? Or, do we keep heading north to Oodnadatta and then sus things out and either go across to Coober Pedy direct Read on...
Took a trip to Attleboro today and visited my old stomping ground. The house my grandfather built for us circa 1946 is still standing. The house and yard that 8 of us, that I thought were so large as a child, now appear so small. I took a picture of the Briggs Corner School, a elementary schools I attended grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. When my sister Diane attended there, just three year Read on...
