This morning we docked at Kratie Town during breakfast. We were able to watch from the dining room as we were tied up to the rickety timber platform that serves as the dock here. The street on the riverbank was lined with tents and people and had a festive air about it. Bourke is the last town we will visit in NSW before we cross the border into Queensland. It appears to be a big town but does not boast a great deal in the way of its shopping precinct. We arrived late Saturday morning, stopping first to refill a gas bottle as we came into town. It was not surprising to find most of the retail outlets had already closed or were about to. What struck us though was Read on...

Our stay on the island began with three nights at the Memory at On On Hotelwhich, problems aside, was a great hotel. Well, for one thing, I get a free layover of about 18 hours, between my connection from Munich to my flight home from Istanbul to SFO. So, why not take advantage of this layover, spend the night in a decent hotel, instead of spending the night in the airline business class lounge? I was just here in May, 2019, just before the pandemic hit in early 2020. I spent about a week here, with a local guid Read on...

We woke up this morning and got off to an early start for a ship excursion in Kona on the Big Island. Kona does not have a port so we had to anchor out in the harbor and take a tender into a port for our excursion. They use some of the ships lifeboats for the tenders, so now, we can all say weve been in a lifeboat. Our excursion was an tour of the bay and harbor in a boat looking at the corals, Read on...
