The surf instructor said it has rained only once so far this year! Crazy! Lots of fires this summer and getting worse by the year because of global warming and people deliberately starting fires according to the news. I also think the smoking everywhere does not help. Wed be in gardens and forests that are attractions and people have cigarettes dangling in their mouths.
Alcohol is soooo cheap! Yo Read on...

Our ship docked at 9am, with easy access to the recently restored Old Town of Malaga. Malaga, we are told, is the main city of coastal Andalucia, along the Costa del Sol, and, like many of the towns we have encountered, retains a distinctly Spanish flavor, with twisting, narrow streets and a lovely waterfront promenade. Tall palm and plane trees, bougainvillea, aloes, and geraniums all made for vi Read on...
I taught English at Old Swinford Hospital School from My first headmaster there was L. W. Peter Sheppard. In 1953 he wrote the following history of the school - which may be of interest to former students and staff.
I have decided to make it more widely available to interested parties by publishing it on the various OSH websites and, in order to facilitate this, I have copied it onto my blog, ad Read on...
For whatever reasons, I kept traveling during rainy season, not an ideal time for traveling in a tropical country like Indonesia. Delayed for a couple of hours, our flight arrived in Gunung Sitoli in the afternoon. Until a few years ago, the only mode of transport reaching the island was by ferry from Sibolga. Nias is an island on the East of North Sumatera, famous for its waves and swell among su Read on...
After my little review of famous mountains, why not review some famous lakes? There is something magical about both. Lakes tend to evoke a more tranquil feeling, for the most part. The bluest of blues can be seen in many of the lakes I have visited. Lake Tahoe Close to home, and a year around destination, Lake Tahoes water level seems to rise and fall with regularity. It is pretty any time of year Read on...

The Issac Killough family was unarmed while harvesting their crops. They were attacked resulting in 18 family members being murdered or carried off. The historic marker (and several internet sites) blamed that massacre on Indians; refering to the peacefu Read on...
We are home, or at least our place of current residence. (The word home is up in the air now, innit?) We pulled into our drive about 9 on the clock last evening, having stopped off at the Saxapahaw General Store to pick up some food on the way. We unloaded the coolers and put their soggy contents in the fridge and turned on the AC and took care of our basic needs. Then we crawled into our familiar Read on...
SUN, 17 JUL 2022 TRANSFER TO BRUGES, BELGIUM: The train ride itself was uneventful, as expected. I had a layover in Brussels, Belgium to make my connection for Bruges, Belgium. No problem. Plenty of time. After all, this isnt OHare. After I disembarked the first train, I looked at the tote board and found nothing going to Bruges. The line at the information/ticket counter was long enough to take Read on...
